Flight Arrivals at Catania Airport
Catania Airport offers travelers plenty of choice. About 9 million passengers pass through the airport in the south of Italy every year. Catania Airport is located some 4.3 km distance from the city of Catania, the second largest city on the Island of Sicily after Palermo. The arrivals areas of Terminals A and C provide everything passengers could need, from onward travel arrangements via a tourist information office and a bus ticket office, to restaurants and cafes where refreshments are available.
Airlines like Air France and Alitalia, Bulgaria Air and Volotea, Easyjet, Wizz and Ryanair operate out of Catania Airport, flying to destinations like Bologna and Rome, Milano Malpensa, Naples and Casablanca, Malta and Venice, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Geneva, Basel and Paris, Lyon and Bordeaux.
Cafes and restaurants in the Arrivals area are typically open from 8.00 am to midnight, as is the flight information office in the Arrivals areas. A Lost & Found service makes it possible for passengers to trace and retrieve their luggage. The service is accessible from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and again from 5.00 pm to 9.00 pm every day.
Catania Arrivals areas also offer passengers currency exchange and banking services in the terminals, and a post office, which is open from 8.15 am to 1.30 pm. The currency exchange office and bus ticket office are open from 6.00 am to 10.00 pm every day.
The terminals also provide disabled passengers with 24-hour assistance and there are restrooms that are wheelchair accessible. Baby changing facilities are located in the Ladies' restrooms, in both Arrivals and Departures. Food and drink outlets include I Dolci di Nonna Vincenza's pasta restaurant, and a coffee shop.
Passing through the sliding doors after arrival, passport control and customs, passengers will see the car rentals area of Catania Airport. Here car rental stations exist for companies like Avis and Budget, AG Transfers SRL, Dollar, Hertz Italiana SRL, Holiday Car Rental SRL, Hollywood Rent A Car, Italy Car Rent, Locauto Rent/Enterprise, Sixt and Sicily Rent Car. Several more car hire companies are located within a short walk of the terminals. Their offices and parking areas are signposted.
Several bus stops are located within a short walk of the terminals. Buses from Alibus connect the airport with Catania city every 20 minutes, between the hours of 04.40 am and midnight. Out of town, countryside bus lines include buses by operator A.S.T. ( www.aziendasicilianatrasporti.it), which run to destinations like Sortino (bus line 264), Castel di Iudica/Catania (bus line 576), Montalbano, Furnari, Barcellona, Messina (bus line 584) and Palermo (bus lines 724 and 725).
Bus operator Etna Transporti connects the airport with Ragusa and Taormina (www.etnatrasporti.it). Interbus connects Catania Airport with destinations like Nicosia, Pachino, Agira and Avola, Siracusa and Noto ( www.interbus.it).
A taxi rank is also just outside the terminals. Airport taxi operators Radio Taxi Catania (www.radiotaxicatania.org, tel +39 095 330 966) and Taxi Service 6188 (www.6188.it, tel +39 095 618833) can help passengers arriving at the airport to get to their hotels or other tourist accommodation quickly and easily. A single journey with a private taxi shared by no more than four passengers costs around 28.00 euros. Taormina is ca. 51 km distance from the airport, Messina ca. 94 km distance via the A18 motorway. It is better to fly into Palermo Airport, but if passengers are using Catania Airport instead, the distance between the two cities is 209 km via the A19 motorway.
Catania is an ancient port city. Located at the foot of Mt Etna, the city was founded by Ionian Greeks, but has been reconstructed several times over the centuries. Today, Catania's historic city centre presents mostly 18th century architecture to visitors. Among the beautiful buildings are the Basilica Sant'Agata, the Castello Ursino, Monastero dei Benedetti, Palazzo Biscari and Teatro Romano. Other tourist attractions well worth seeing are the San Nicoló l'Arena, the Porta Garibaldi and the Piazza del Duomo, the Museo Civico and the La Pescheria fish market held during the week.
